SANTE FE, NM, September 27, 2018 - CODAworx, the hub of the commissioned art economy, concluded on Friday, September 21, the first annual CODAsummit: The Intersection of Art, Technology and Place in Santa Fe, NM. Toni Sikes, CEO of CODAworx, called the event a “Huge success! Fascinating presentations were delivered and lifelong connections were made. More hugs were shared at this event than any other conference I’ve ever attended.”

The groundbreaking event created a platform for conversation at this milestone moment in art history when technology is playing a key role in major commissioned artworks. The CODAsummit focused on this paradigm shift by featuring artists who are using technology to create placemaking installations, and highlighting the collaborations occurring between artists, designers, architects, and technologists.

CODAworx is at the center of this global movement, placing it in a unique position to create a gathering of key figures in the art and technology worlds. Held at the prestigious Center for Contemporary Arts, in attendance were leading artists, fabricators, technology companies, and thought leaders - museum curators, public art agency administrators, representatives from leading educational institutions - to develop critical thinking about the role of technology in placemaking art.

Artists and commissioning panelists presented original art environments that were interactive and engaged viewers on multi-sensory levels. A panel on data visualization addressed how artists use the visual representation of data to facilitate comprehension of a subject. The resulting high-level dialogue opened up a discussion on a new vocabulary for the industry to address this exciting new paradigm of technology in art. These discussions and all of the panel sessions were recorded and will be published online on the CODAworx website for art and design professionals who were unable to attend the event.
